Making good quality traditional pottery is a multi step process which demands not only a certain know-how but also handling objects with great care.

For Ellyssa Pottery,  every step of the manufacturing process is an activity in itself.

 Extraction of clay

It is the first step of the manufacturing process.  The clay used is extracted from the careers in the area of Moknine.  In fact,  this clay has very good natural qualities such as high resistance to frost.  Afterwards,  that clay will be prepared in the workshops of the company.

 Washing and kneading

Manufacturing pottery begins by blending clay (clay¸ marne¸ silica).

We can give the clay the desired form by kneading it.  The first technique of kneading is stamping¸ but the mixture can also be beaten.  We can also add mineral materials (sand¸ gravels¸ shells…) to harden its consistence.

 Shaping

It is the most artistic step of the manufacturing process.  The best technique is called "tournage".  The tour is a rotating plate called "girelle".

After the object dries enough to have a "leather" aspect¸ the turner adjusts the defects and deepens the base of the pottery.  Then¸ if necessary¸ we could proceed to the "ansage" (posing handles) and engrave the objects according to the chosen model.

We must leave dry then,  it is the end of the shaping step.

 Cooking

When the clay is perfectly dry,  the cooking of the soft articles can be achieved at a high temperature level.

The firing mode first with wood then coal¸ fume¸ electricity…needs particular attention it determines the hardness of ceramics.

We can have different results by increasing or decreasing oxygen in the flame.

At the end of the process¸ the Ellyssa Pottery is ready for sale and expedition of the items. In fact¸ company potteries are sold all over the world.

Ellyssa Pottery reserves for its customers a whole team of experts whose aim is customers satisfaction – whatever their location – in terms of control¸ delivery and articles guarantee as well as.
